Collaborative Storage

A collaborative storage system allows more than one system to access the same storage at the same time. Typical examples are a server or a SAN (storage area network, where systems connect to the storage over Fibre Channel at great speed).

There are significant workflow advantages with shared storage systems, such as: several people working in the same project at the same time, facility wide common fast and reliable storage, different workstations (sometimes running different operating systems) accessing the same files, integration with servers and image database systems (such as Final Cut Server).

Collaborative systems usually consists of a single pool of storage, and two or more workstations or servers having access to that storage. The faster the storage, the more workstations can use it, and the higher quality the video files you can use.
